2021 Mary Taylor Beaujolais Villages
Tasting Notes:Â
This 100% Gamay is the work of two powerhouse women: Mary Taylor, who built her import label around transparency and integrity, and Marine Descombe, the fifth-generation winemaker at her family’s Beaujolais estate (established in 1905).
In the glass, you’ll find bright aromas of strawberry and cassis. On the palate, it’s light-bodied but focused, layering delicate blackberry bramble, earthy tones, and silky tannins that slip right into place.
Mary Taylor Wines:Â
Mary Taylor’s mission is to crack open the world of European “appellation” wines for all of us—not by watering them down, but by highlighting the growers themselves. She partners with families across France and beyond, farmers who work their land with respect (many certified sustainable, organic, or biodynamic).
Every bottle is named for the grower behind it, a reminder that wine isn’t a faceless luxury product—it’s a story of land, lineage, and labor. Mary’s lineup makes regional, honest wines accessible without sacrificing soul.
Gamay:Â
We’ll admit it: Gamay has a special place in our cellar. It’s Pinot Noir’s free-spirited cousin, a little looser, a little less buttoned-up. Sommeliers call it their “secret weapon” for good reason—it’s joyful, food-friendly, and often friendlier on the wallet. Think light, juicy fruit with just enough earth to keep things grounded.
Beaujolais, France:Â
At the southern edge of Burgundy, Beaujolais has long been known as the laid-back sibling in a famously serious wine family. But don’t mistake easygoing for simple—this region produces 75% of the world’s Gamay, ranging from breezy, everyday bottles to Cru Beaujolais that can age with the best of Burgundy. It’s wine that’s both unpretentious and profound, depending on where you choose to enter.
Food & Wine Pairing:Â
Gamay’s high acidity and soft tannins make it one of the most versatile reds at the table. Yes, it’s brilliant with charcuterie, roast turkey, or pork chops—but it’s equally at home with a plate of nachos, wings on game day, or spicy Thai noodles. Basically, it’s your “yes” wine.
Mood Pairing:Â
This is the wine for when you want something that matches your energy without overwhelming it. A dinner party icebreaker. A solo night with your journal. A bottle to pull when you’re in the mood for conversation that flows easily but still gets somewhere meaningful. In other words: light on its feet, but not shallow.
