2023 Domaine Audebert Bourgueil Rosé

2023 Domaine Audebert Bourgueil Rosé

Tasting Notes:

From a 3-hectare parcel of 15+ year-old vines, this rosé is 100% Cabernet Franc, crafted from a mix of 55% saignée and 45% direct press. Fermented at cool temperatures in stainless steel, it captures freshness and layered flavor.

In the glass, it’s lively and bright—ripe strawberry, red cherry, grapefruit, and orange zest laced with rose petal and just a hint of white pepper. On the palate, it balances round fruit with zesty lift, carrying notes of blood orange, spice, and a streak of minerality that keeps you coming back for another sip.

Domaine Audebert et Fils Wines:

The Audebert family has been rooted in Bourgueil since 1839. Today, François Audebert and his sons farm 42 hectares across Bourgueil, Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil, and Chinon. Their work is all about Cabernet Franc (known locally as Breton), the soul of the region. With soils ranging from sand and gravel to siliceous clay and limestone, each plot brings a different expression, and together they create wines with both typicity and character.

Rosé:

Rosé isn’t a grape—it’s a style, and a surprisingly complex one. At its heart, rosé is red wine made in a lighter, fresher way. This particular bottling blends two approaches: saignée (where some juice is “bled off” from red wine fermentation for concentration) and direct press (where grapes are harvested just for rosé and pressed right away). The result? A rosé that’s both juicy and crisp, with depth and lift in equal measure.

Bourgueil, France:

Bourgueil is tucked into the middle Loire, technically part of Touraine but often thought of alongside Chinon, just across the river. With southern exposure, sheltering forests, and the moderating Loire nearby, the area has a gentle microclimate ideal for Cabernet Franc. Here, terroir speaks loudly: gravelly soils near the river give lighter, red-fruited wines, while the tuffeau limestone hillsides bring more spice, structure, and earthy depth.

Food & Wine Pairing:

This is a rosé built for the table. Try it with charcuterie, roast chicken or pork, or grilled vegetables. Thanks to its saignée component, it has enough body to stand up to smoky, charred flavors—making it a natural partner for backyard BBQs.

Mood Pairing:

Think of this bottle as your summer anchor—sun on your face, smoke curling off the grill, music humming in the background. It’s not fussy, but it knows how to hold its own. The wine to pour when you want something refreshing, but with just enough edge to match long conversations, unexpected laughter, and the glow of late sunsets.
