Cabernet Sauvignon Wine Guide: Taste, Pairings, Price & Astrology Match

Cabernet Sauvignon Wine Guide: Taste, Pairings, Price & Astrology Match

If you're looking for a quick and dirty break down of Cabernet Sauvignon we've got you covered. From what it is, where it's from, what it tastes like and how to shop for it, check out the breakdown below. You can also learn what to pair it with and which zodiac sign is best suited for this wine.

What it is:

The Grape: Cabernet Sauvignon

Most Commonly found in:  Bordeaux, California, Argentina

What it tastes like: A full bodied red wine known for its deep ruby red color, high tannins and rich dark fruit flavors. Expect tasting notes of Blackcurrant, Blackberry or Black cherry as well as things like green peppers, herbal notes and baking spice from oak aging.

What to look for when shopping: Cabs from California will be at all stores and wine shops. Napa Valley will be more expensive and heavier, while Paso Robles or Santa Barbara County can provide moderate tannins and price points. Many will just be labeled California. Bordeaux from the ‘Left Bank’ will be mostly Cabernet and have brighter acidity.

Cost: ($10–$20), Mid-Range ($20–$50), Premium ($50–$100), Luxury ($100+) Budget/Value: Look for Cabs from Chile or Argentina, they often have a lower price, but maintain high quality.

Alternatives: Already a Cab lover but looking to branch out and try something a little different but still in the same wheelhouse? Try a similar wine like Aglianico, Tannat or Malbec.

How to Use It:

When to drink (seasons, moods, moments): No wine is confined to just one season but Cabernet Sauvignon certainly make us think of chilly fall nights or cold winters snuggled up by the fire.

What to pair it with (food / vibes): Cabernet Sauvignon is the quintessential steak wine. The bold fruits and big tannin make pairing this wine with a rich protein a no brainer. But if steak or meat isn't your thing no worries. You just need to pick food with bold enough flavors to stand up to this big wine. Things like grilled portobello mushrooms or a veggie chili would be great here too.

Who it’s for: The person who loves wines that pack a punch. Bold, rich, and spiced. Someone who has a reliable ‘go-to’ wine to have on its own or with a meal. And certainly someone who's not afraid to take a bold stand.

Astrology Pairing:

Zodiac Sign: Aries

Why it Matches: Aries as a sign is known for being bold, forceful, immediate and high impact. All words that easily describe Cabernet Sauvignon. This is not a wine that's subtle and like the fire sign Aries it's not looking for permission to be bold.

Tarot Pairing:

Tarot Card: The Emperor is authority, structure, and protection. He builds empires, sets rules, and thrives in discipline. And Cabernet Sauvignon is full-bodied, bold, and commanding. Dark fruit, oak, and tobacco mirror The Emperor’s serious, structured energy. You can also check out our full Tarot x Wine Digital Guide!
