Edition 11 | May 11, 2026 - May 17, 2026 | Wine for the Week Ahead

Ok Friends, two things this week, both of which center on Taurus and new beginnings. First up on May 14th, we have a Mercury Cazimi in Taurus - a cazimi is when a planet comes together with the sun. It's the start of a new cycle for that planet. And this Cazimi with Mercury is, of course, happening with the sun in Taurus. Mercury, as the planet that rules the mind, how we process information, and how we express ourselves. Ultimately, it is known as the messenger planet, the planet of communication.

Mercury in Taurus slows things down a bit. It helps us to take a breather and make our conversations a little bit more deliberate. This is great astrology for insight - a breakthrough, a realization, or a conversation that makes it feel like everything suddenly clicks into place. Basically, May 14th is a really, really good day for communications. It's great for sending a message, for getting clear on a plan, for getting those insights, and having buzzy conversations that make all those switches click in your brain.

And while you're having these fun conversations or making your splashy public announcements, we recommend doing so with a glass of Carricante. A bit of a mouthful, but a bright, refreshing, high-acid and mineral-driven white wine from the foothills of Mount Etna on Sicily. It's a late ripening grape, so like a Taurus, it takes its time, but it's also the perfect bright and buzzy pairing for the Mercury Cazimi insights this week.

Ok, that's Thursday. On Saturday, we get another fresh start with a new moon in Taurus. New moons in general are great for new beginnings, setting intentions, initiating new projects, and planting seeds you want to watch grow alongside the moon. And with a new moon in Taurus, this is a great time to set intentions around financial security and the stability and foundations of your life. What projects do you need to put in place? What are the foundations you need to work on to set yourself up for success and growth in the future?

All of which means that Saturday is a great day to journal about your new intentions over a glass of Merlot. Merlot is, perhaps, not the sexiest of wines, but it is a wine that is grounded, steady, and despite some best efforts, a variety that is stubbornly holding its ground. Go ahead and make a whole night of it, Taurus loves to romanticize a situation.

Tarot Card of the Week:

The King of Swords is the strategist, the master of logic and authority. He sees the big picture, cuts away emotion when necessary, and rules with intellect and fairness, though sometimes at the expense of warmth. Pair-wise, the "King of Wines" is a natural fit here. Barolo demands respect, dominates the table, and represents mastery and tradition. This is not a casual Tuesday night wine; this is a bottle that demands a little ceremony and certainly some respect.
