Edition 9 | April 27, 2026 - May 3, 2026 | Wine for the Week Ahead

This week has waaay less going on than last week. And if you felt anything of the astrology of last week, I think you're probably going to be happy to hear that.

This week, we're going to focus on just one thing - Friday, May 1st, Full Moon in Scorpio, also known as the Flower Moon. We've said it before, and I am sure that we will say it again, but in general, full moons are a time for letting something go, for release, or for the culmination of something you've been working towards. The Moon is at its pinnacle; it's only getting smaller from here on out, and as it wanes, this is a good time to picture whatever you're trying to let go of or leave behind slowly fade away from you.

But that, of course, is just full moons in general. This is a full moon in Scorpio with a Taurus sun, and that will always add its own specific spin on things. Scorpio full moons illuminate things that lie beneath the surface. And this full moon is particularly potent for releasing attachments. Whether that looks like a relationship that's run its course, getting rid of patterns of control that are holding you back, or letting go of your fears around intimacy. Let this full moon bring things to the surface, and then once you've faced what you need to deal with, do the work to let it go and watch it fade with the moon from here on out.

And of course, as this can be emotionally intense work during this Scorpio Full Flower Moon, can we recommend some wine to go with your catharsis? For this full moon, we recommend sipping on some Carignan. If you've never heard of or tasted Carignan before, then you might be surprised to learn that it is in the top ten of all grapes planted globally. In fact, at one point, it was the most widely planted wine variety in France until Merlot overtook it at the end of the 20th century. It's a grape that is often used in blends, commonly hiding just under the surface, so to speak.

Carignan, whether in a blend or on its own, tends to have a rather pronounced personality. Right off the bat is the color, which tends to be a rather bright magenta. It is also high in both acid and tannin and can have a slight bitterness to the finish. Carignane tends to have bright fruit-forward flavors like dried cranberry, dark cherry, raspberry, and black currant. But all that fruit is often followed up with an undercurrent of baking spices, pepper, black licorice, and even hints of cured meat.

Essentially, it is the perfect wine to guide you through any emotional upheaval, release, healing or whatever else may come your way during this week's full moon in Scorpio.
Tarot Card of the Week
The card for this week is the Ten of Wands. The Ten of Wands is a card of burdens, responsibilities, and carrying too much weight. It speaks to the struggle of perseverance when everything feels heavy—but also the strength of endurance.

And the wine pairing for this card is Tannat. Deep, powerful, and tannic, Tannat is not for the faint of heart. It’s a wine that demands your attention and mirrors the intensity of carrying the world on your shoulders.
