This Grenache is such an incredible value. It’s more from old, over 100 year old Grenache vines and is surprisingly complex with tasting notes of kirsche, raspberry, licorice and chalky minerals.

Herència Altés is a family-owned winery in Terra Alta devoted to vine-growing and the production of fresh and elegant wines. Winemaker Núria Altés was born in Batea (Terra Alta) into the latest generation of a family which has worked with and taken care of their winemaking heritage over the years and passed their love for the land on to her. 

Grenache Wines: 

Who here is looking for a wine whose signature taste is fruit roll-up? That pretty much sold me. Grenache is full of juicy fruits, bursting with flowers and loaded with spice. It also plays a very important role in some of the wine world’s most famous blends. In France Grenache is blended with the Southern Rhone’s other varietals like Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Cinsault. It produces wines exploding with cherry fruit along with herbal, almost smoky notes like oregano, lavender, and tobacco. In Spain however, with a much warmer climate, this naturally late-ripening grape produces bolder reds. Wines full of fruit and licorice and spice and often with alcohol levels exceeding 15%.

Terra Alta, Catalonia, Spain:

Terra Alta is the most southerly wine DO wine region in Catalonia, northern Spain. It also has the highest altitude, with the mountain peaks reaching (3,000ft). The vineyards are located further down, in the foothills, and on valley floors. Unsurprisingly, Terra Alta means ‘high land’ in Catalan. The picturesque region has been captured in paintings by the renowned artist Pablo Picasso, who spent some summers there.

Food & Wine Pairing: 

This wine pairs well with poultry or pork or spicier foods with red pepper and paprika flavors. But can definitely compliment many dishes since Grenache isn’t as heavy or tannic as other reds.
