2023 Humo Blanco Pinot Noir
The Wine: Humo Blanco is a layer within a layer within a layer. It's a label under Hacienda Araucano, a biodynamic Chilean wine estate founded by Domaine Francois Lurton, a french family of winemakers that have been in the business since 1897. But under all those different layers, Humo Blanco is quite tiny, producing only about 5,000 cases a year. The name Humo Blanco translates to "white smoke" and is a reference to the think fog that lays over the Lolol Valley in Chile where the grapes for this wine are grown.
This 100% Pinot Noir made with Organic grapes is full of notes of pomegranate, cherry, violets and some subtle vanilla. It's full on the palate while still being light and elegant.
Zodiac Pairing: Libra. Generally I like to classify Pinot Noir as Cancer wines - a little prickly, happiest at home, soft and nurturing when they let you in. But this particular example of Pinot Noir is a Libra. Yes, many of the things I said above are still true of this bottle, but this is a Pinot that's a bit more approachable, both in terms of the flavor and the price point. Its a wine, much like Libra, that knows exactly what to add to create harmony at your next social gathering.
