2025 Domaine Labbe Abymes
The Wine: Domaine Labbe is a family affair, started in 1975 as a side project between two brothers who spent weekends farming the vines while spending the rest of their time growing other crops and raising livestock to support their families the winery was taken over in 2004 by their children and is still family run today. From the beginning they planted Jacquere. Jacquère is a white wine grape variety native to the Savoie region of the French Alps. It produces light-bodied, bone-dry, and crisp wines with high acidity, low alcohol (typically 9–11.5% ABV), and subtle notes of green apple, pear, citrus, and flinty minerality.
This wine is bright and easy drinking. A perfect end of summer white where the days are still long and hot but you actually have to start gearing up to be productive again. Luckily it’s on the lower side, alcohol wise. Expect tasting notes of lime, green apple, pear, wildflowers and a stony minerality on the finish.
Zodiac Pairing: Taurus. Taurus is grounded, steady and just a bit romantic. The perfect description for a wine from a producer that has been quietly working in the background for generations just for the love of the craft. Jacquere might not be a grape you've heard of, it's not the most prestigious of wines. But for this region of France it produces light, bright and highly drinkable white wines that can make even a regular weeknight feel special.
